Startup Incubator -- Student Agreement
The Adelson Educational Campus offers you, our students, a new type of educational opportunity in design thinking. Through this process, you will develop apps, products, and media. Advanced students will also engage in entrepreneurship. Your instructors in the Startup Incubator promise to provide an exciting and forward thinking learning process. Most of your activities will be hands-on, and you will often have a great deal of creative freedom to customize projects. However, at times, your instruction will be introduced in more traditional teaching forms, including lecture and background readings. We understand that these forms of learning can be less exciting than other forms of learning we use, so we will attempt to minimize them; although, the more complex the project, the more background you will need to ensure your safety and your ability to succeed. Additionally, you have opportunities to work individually and in teams. Sometimes you will choose your own teams, and other times your instructors will select and organize the teams.
To provide this new type of experience, we are expanding upon the school’s standard code of conduct with the following Incubator Agreement:
The following rules are in addition to the standard Adelson School rules and code of conduct:
1. I am here to innovate, create, and learn. It is my duty to avoid distractions and avoid creating distractions that interfere with or are counter-intuitive to that mission.
2. I will listen and follow all directions: oral, written, and posted. Directions are given to ensure a safe and exceptional educational experience for all.
3. I will respect my instructors and peers. I will only use school appropriate language and behavior at all times.
4. I will never intentionally harm another person. Accordingly, I will use my hands, feet, and other objects appropriately, safely, and without interfering in another person’s work. If I see any unsafe situation, I will report it to an instructor immediately.
5. I will respect the equipment. I can only operate equipment on which I have been fully trained, fully understand, and have been authorized to use. I will only operate it in an approved, nondestructive manner. Incubator equipment can be dangerous if used improperly. Roughhousing and tomfoolery of any type will not be tolerated. Additionally, much of the equipment in the Incubator is expensive. If my actions result in damaged property, I will be held financially responsible for it.
6. I will only go in authorized areas. The Startup Incubator is a multiuse facility. I will not go into areas marked or cordoned off without good reason and permission from an instructor.
7. I will represent myself in a manner that I, my parents, and my teachers will be proud of. I only get one opportunity to get life right. I will take advantage of my family’s investment in my education and the unique opportunity I have to work in the Startup Incubator here at Adelson.
8. I will respect the intellectual property rights of my peers and instructors. As peers and instructors share, discuss, and develop creative ideas, I may observe and hear information about their works-in-progress. I will not misappropriate these ideas, discuss them with others, nor attempt to use them for gain (including monetary gain). Conversely, I can expect similar respect by peers and instructors of my own intellectual property rights.
9. I will complete assignments on time, every time. Assignments exist to spark reflection of my thinking and growth in my work, and to afford a documented window to this personal evolution.
10. I will comply with rules regarding use of my mobile devices. Instructors will provide clear instructions regarding when my laptop is to be closed or open (or desktop is to be used); and whether I can use my mobile phone in class. Additionally, there may be times when I am permitted to use social media to create posts regarding Startup Incubator activities. At all times, I will comply immediately with instructions given.
I understand that failure to follow these rules will result in immediate consequences. Minor infractions can result in immediate removal from the Startup Incubator for the remainder of the class. Multiple minor infractions, or any major safety infractions can result in immediate removal from class, and permanent removal from inclusion in Startup Incubator courses.
